The Spanish major is designed to provide students with a broad background in the Spanish language and the different cultural groups that have been influenced by that language. Students who major in Spanish have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of topic and subject areas.

In addition to the conversation, grammar, and writing courses, students may take courses in Cultural Expressions of Indigenous People in Latin America, Translation, Latin American Fiction, and Hispanic Women Writers. They will be able to practice Spanish and learn more about peoples with Spanish influenced heritages through face-to-face interaction, field experiences and, in some instances, study abroad opportunities.
