The College of Arts & Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Biology with an Accelerated 3+4 Pre-Medicine Concentration and a Pre-Professional Concentration. The core curriculum provides a background in the chemical, mathematical, and physical sciences, as well as broad basis in the biological sciences that prepares students for continued education in medicine and other professional programs of study.

The Accelerated 3+4 Pre-Medicine Concentration is offered through agreements with the University of South Florida College of Medicine and the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Bradenton. Students in this concentration fulfill requirements asset forth by FGCU for their first three years (90 credit hours) of coursework. If progression requirements are maintained, students are eligible for admission to the USF College of Medicine or the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Bradenton. Upon successful completion of the first year of the USF medical school or the LECOM osteopathic or pharmacy curriculums, 30 credits are awarded by FGCU for completion and conferral of the B.S. in Biology. Students continue with their medical education at USF or LECOM.

At any time prior to a deadline set by each program during the third year of enrollment, students in the Accelerated 3+4 Pre-Medicine Concentration may elect a 4+4 option that follows a more traditional pattern of four years of undergraduate coursework prior to receiving the baccalaureate degree and then entering the USF College of Medicine or the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Bradenton. This option enables student to take more advanced coursework and become involved in additional activities.

The Pre-Professional Concentration provides a rigorous curriculum giving students the opportunity to select courses that will prepare them for admission to a professional school for a career in areas such as allopathic and osteopathic medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, and pharmacy.
