“Wings of Hope”

“Building bridges of hope and kindness for wildlife and the environment with education and awareness.”

The “Wings of Hope” program is an integral part of the Environmental Humanities curriculum and service learning at FGCU. University students are introduced to native Southwest Florida wildlife species, their habitats, water conservation and “green” ways a person can help our earth. They then bring this knowledge to young students in grades 1st – 5th grade with science-based environmental education programs. Elementary school students are bussed to FGCU or programs are presented in their schools—public and private schools in Collier and Lee Counties.

The “Wings of Hope” program focuses on bringing back a sense of family and community. Working with small groups (one on one) promotes and enhances self-esteem and confidence to the student’s abilities and assists them in better understanding and respecting our natural world. After the programs are completed, the college and young students continue their mission of environmental awareness by educating their families, friends, and the community with their knowledge.
