Student Employment (Federal Work-Study Program)

Career Development Services - Current Job List

The Federal Work-Study program is a part-time job program funded by the U. S. Dept. of Education and the institution. Federal Work Study is awarded to needy undergraduate and graduate students who file the FAFSA by the priority deadline of March 1st. The amount of students' awards are based on students' financial need and the institution's funding level. Students may work up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session and 40 hours per during school breaks. The rate of pay is at least the current federal minimum wage, but the amount might be higher depending on the type of work the student performs and the skills required. Students' wages are paid by FGCU. When the student has earned the entire amount of the Federal Work-Study award, the student's job through the Federal Work-Study program comes to an end.

The objectives of the Federal Work-Study Program are to provide:

  • a source of financial aid to degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate financial need
  • college students who are in need of financial aid a chance to earn money while pursing their degree
  • work experience which enhances the participants' education whenever practical.
