The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), passed in 1990, and amended in 2008 as the Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act (ADAAA), ensures that Americans with disabilities are able to participate in the mainstream of life, including higher education. Therefore, Florida Gulf Coast University, under the guidelines of ADAAA and Section 504 Federal legislation, provides accessible activities, programs and services to students, faculty, staff and guests of the university who have disabilities.
To help provide the best possible service to those individuals needing reasonable accommodations due to a disability, Florida Gulf Coast University has an ADA Coordinator who can assist anyone with questions about access.

The primary goal of the Office of Adaptive Services is to provide services and accommodations that enhance access for Florida Gulf Coast University students, faculty, staff and guests with disabilities. Adaptive Services facilitates effective reasonable accommodations by educating the campus community and promoting equal access and opportunity.
