Admission Tuition Waivers

FGCU campus

FGCU also uses budget authority granted by the state and the Board of Trustees for the purpose of waiving the tuition for certain types of students. Waivers are awarded based on the University's established key selection criteria of recruitment, retention, diversity and service. Each type of tuition waiver award has specific renewal criteria.

There are a number of different categories of awards for both undergraduate and graduate students. The following links will familiarize you with the type of waiver for which you may be eligible, requirements for applying for a waiver, and the criteria for renewal each term.

Please give special attention to the deadline dates noted within each waiver category. You are encouraged to apply for a waiver BEFORE receiving an admissions decision in order to meet the waiver application deadline.

Admission Merit Scholarship

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions offers merit scholarships each year to new students admitted for the summer and fall terms. The award is $2,000.00 and is split between the fall and spring terms. The student must enroll in the fall term. There is no application for this scholarship. All FGCU applications received by November 15th are considered. The scholarship is awarded based on a combination of GPA and standardized test score. All applicants are ranked with the top students receiving the award. The number of awards depends on fund availability and may vary from year to year. Students are notified by early spring.

National Merit Scholarship

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarship. The competition is open to all U.S. high school students who meet published participation requirements. Scholarship winners are chosen on the basis of their abilities, skills and accomplishments. Students must submit proof of being chosen as one of the National Merit Program Finalists. Full details are available at National Merit Scholarship Program

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Scholarships are awarded to upper level transferring students who have graduated with an Associate’s degree and are members from a Florida PTK Chapter.

Eligibility: In addition to having an Associate’s degree and being a member from a Florida PTK chapter, students must also satisfy ALL the requirements below:

• Be admitted by FGCU as a degree seeking student.
• Maintain full time status (12 credits Fall and 12 credits in Spring).
• Have a minimum transfer GPA of 3.5.
• Provide a copy of PTK membership card.

Award: The scholarship award is $1,500.00 per academic year or $750.00 per term and is awarded for Fall and Spring terms only. This award is subject to funds availability.

Summer awards may be considered depending on fund availability.

Renewal: The scholarship is renewable for an additional academic year only if the student maintains a full time status and a GPA of 3.5.  If a student loses the scholarship or fails to maintain continuous enrollment he/she may appeal the decision by filling out the Undergraduate Admissions Waiver and Scholarship Appeal Form.  The form is available below:

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship –All Florida Academic Team

Each year, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honors outstanding PTK students from each Florida Community College by nominating them to the All-Florida Academic Team(s). Florida Gulf Coast University is pleased to offer full tuition waivers to members of the All-Florida Academic Team(s).

Eligibility: Please refer to the PTK Scholarship requirements above . In addition, students or team members will need to submit their All-Florida Academic Team award letter.

Award: Scholarship recipients will have their full tuition covered for the fall and spring semesters for two academic years. Summer awards may be considered depending on fund availability. The number of awards provided is subject to funds availability.

Renewal:
The scholarship is renewed only if the student maintains a full time status and a GPA of 3.5.  If a student loses the scholarship or fails to maintain continuous enrollment he/she may appeal the decision by filling out the Undergraduate Admissions Waiver and Scholarship Appeal Form.  The form is available below:

Latin American Caribbean Scholarship

The Latin American Caribbean (LAC) Scholarship is awarded to international students from designated Latin American and Caribbean countries. An explanation of the program and the criteria for the award is available at this site Latin American Caribbean Scholarship Program

The application [.pdf - 37kb] and any accompanying documents must be submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Valedictorian and Salutatorian Scholarships

Students who are the valedictorian or salutatorian of any high school graduating class in Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties are offered a four year full tuition scholarship at FGCU. The scholarship is awarded for one year, but is renewable for three additional years or until such time as the student completes their first bachelor’s degree. The high schools must be regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Students must be fully admissible to FGCU with standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) above the minimum required for admission.  This scholarship is not available to home schooled students.  There is no application required. Schools are requested to nominate their Valedictorian and Salutatorian candidates to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions each spring. Further details are available at the following link.
