Undergraduate Out-of-State Tuition Waivers
Florida Gulf Coast University's Board of Trustees has authorized the Out-of-State Waivers for certain types of students to enhance campus diversity and academic quality in an ever increasing competitive student market. Waivers are based on the University's established key selection criteria of recruitment, retention, diversity and service and awarded to students who meet certain initial requirements. Student applicants must adhere to the application and renewal deadlines.
General Eligibility Criteria
- Students must be admitted to FGCU as an undergraduate degree seeking student.
- For awards based on academic merit the GPA and test score will be considered as follows:
- FTIC Students must have a minimum recalculated High School GPA of 3.4 to be considered. Standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) will be combined with the GPA to determine rank.
- Transfer students must have a combined transfer GPA of at least 3.4.
- Current FGCU students must have a cumulative FGCU GPA of 3.4.
- Awards may be based on factors other than GPA and test score. Such factors may include outstanding leadership or civic engagement, demonstrated talents in visual or performing arts or other activities critically related to the FGCU mission.
- Students can be full-time or part-time.
- The number of credit hours awarded may vary as determined by the available allocation and the circumstances for each individual award. The maximum award for any one term will normally be 9 credit hours.
Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee a waiver award. This is a competitive process and the number of awards will be determined according to the number of applications received, annual allocation, and the cost of tuition.
Please note that since this program is principally administered in conjunction with the admissions process, newly admitted students shall be given priority over current FGCU students who may be applying for the first time.
Deadline Dates
- Fall term: March 1
- Spring term: November 30
- Summer term: March 1
Applications received after the stated deadlines will not be considered.

What is the value of a Tuition Waiver?
An undergraduate out-of-state waiver covers the non-resident matriculation fee; that is, the differential between resident and non-resident tuition for up to a total of 9 credit hours. Waivers do not cover the requisite state and federal fees added to the tuition cost. Undergraduate out-of-state waivers are awarded to non-resident students only. For a breakdown of charges, refer to this link: http://www.fgcu.edu/Cashiers/tuition-and-fees.html.
Renewal Requirements
- Undergraduate Out-of-State Tuition Waivers are generally awarded for the fall and spring semesters for a maximum of 9 credit hours per semester.
- The waiver can be renewed up until the student completes his/her first bachelor’s degree or until the student’s earned and attempted credits reach the required number of credits for his/her chosen degree program whichever comes first.
- At the end of each semester all waiver recipients will be automatically reviewed for continuation and only those not meeting the renewal criteria will be notified. Consideration for renewal will be based upon:
For awards based solely on academic merit;
- Cumulative FGCU GPA must be 3.4 or higher.
- Students must earn credit in 80% of attempted hours.
- Students must meet the criteria after each semester for which they received the award.
- A semester GPA cannot fall below 2.75.
For awards based on other factors students must meet the criteria as stipulated in their award letter.
Waivers will not be automatically renewed for the summer semester. Students wishing to be considered for a summer waiver should contact the Undergraduae Admissions office by March 1st.
If a student loses the waiver or fails to maintain continuous enrollment he/she may appeal the decision by filling out the Undergraduate Admissions Waiver and Scholarship Appeal Form. The form is available below:
