Undergraduate In-State Tuition Waivers

Florida Gulf Coast University's Board of Trustees has authorized the In-State Tuition Waiver for select students to enhance campus diversity, campus student leadership, community service, and academic quality among the university's undergraduate students.

Florida Gulf Coast University believes that a diverse student body enhances the environment for learning, enriches intellectual dialog, and helps students develop the mutual respect essential for the effective functioning of the campus community. Waivers are based on the University's established key selection criteria as described below. An In-state Tuition Waiver Committee has been appointed by the President to select recipients of this award each year.

General Eligibility Criteria

  • Apply and be approved for admission to FGCU as a degree-seeking student, and
  • be an in-state or out-of-state student, and
  • be a first-time-in-college, a transfer student, or a continuing student, and
  • contribute to the diversity of the campus, or
  • provide active community service, or
  • have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0, or
  • have a 1510 SAT combined, or 22 ACT composite, or
  • have an outstanding record of leadership achievements

Please note that these waivers are not an entitlement. Every student who applies and meets the minimum criteria will be considered for a waiver. However, the number of available waivers is limited and not every deserving student will receive an award.

Deadlines

The Undergraduate In-State Tuition Waiver Application should be submitted by:

  • December 1 for Spring Term
  • April 1 for Summer and Fall Terms

Applications will continue to be accepted after that date, but applications received earlier will receive priority.

What is the value of a Tuition Waiver?

An undergraduate in-state waiver covers the resident or Florida resident matriculation fee, for a total of twelve credit hours. Waivers do not cover the requisite state and federal fees added to the tuition cost. Undergraduate in-state waivers may be awarded to resident or non-resident students, but only cover the resident tuition. For a breakdown of charges, refer to this link http://www.fgcu.edu/Cashiers/tuition-and-fees.html.

Renewal Requirements

Undergraduate In-State Tuition Waivers are generally awarded for the fall and spring semesters for a maximum of 12 credit hours per semester. Students may continue to receive the waiver up until the time they complete their first undergraduate degree or until such time as the student’s earned and attempted credits reaches the required number for his/her degree program whichever comes first. All waivers are however, contingent upon continued budget authorization and may be cancelled or modified at anytime.

At the end of each semester all waiver recipients will be automatically reviewed for continuation and only those not meeting the renewal criteria will be notified. Consideration for renewal will be based upon one or more of these factors:

  • Active community service,
  • a minimum cumulative FGCU GPA of 3.0,
  • an outstanding record of leadership achievements,
  • applicant's contribution to the diversity of the campus.

Please note that this does not apply for the summer term.

Waivers will not be automatically renewed for the summer semester.  Students wishing to be considered  for a summer waiver should contact the Admissions office by March 1st.

If a student loses the waiver or fails to maintain continuous enrollment he/she may appeal the decision by filling out the Undergraduate Admissions Waiver and Scholarship Appeal Form.  This form is available below:
