Aswani Volety is an Associate Professor of Marine Science in the Division of Ecological Studies at the Florida Gulf Coast University. His research expertise includes shellfish diseases, physiology, immunopathology, toxicology, and management and restoration of shellfish habitat. His current research includes investigating the effects of watershed alteration, freshwater inflows and contaminants on the biochemical, physiological, and ecological responses of oysters. He has been funded by various federal, state and private agencies such as the USEPA, National Research Council, Sea Grant, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, NOAA’s Saltonstall-Kennedy Program, Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program, South Florida Water Management Program, and Mote Marine Laboratory. Dr. Volety has over 100 presentations to his credit in various national and international meetings in addition to nearly 25 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Volety is a reviewer of proposals for various State and Federal Agencies such as the NSF, National Sea Grant, and Louisiana Board of Regents, reviewer of manuscripts for journals such as the Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology, Journal of Shellfish Research, Journal of Experimental Biology, Environmental Management, Marine Environmental Research, and Estuaries. He has organized many special sessions in national and international meetings and has served on several panels including the Caloosahatchee Estuary Conceptual model for Everglades Restoration.
