MFA., Southern Illinois University Carbondale, 2005 B.A., University of Utah, 2001 Farshad Aminian is a native of Iran whose primary interest is an art form of cinema where humanism and philosophy intermingle to create a universal language. He is interested in simple yet meaningful films which are rooted in poetry (such as modern and classical Persian poetry). He is interested in film and media as form of social, cultural, and political means for our global understanding. He has taught both film studies and production courses at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and Ithaca College, NY. Courses he has taught are: “Film History and Analysis,” “ European Art Cinema: French New Wave and Beyond,” “New Iranian Cinema,” “Film Production,” and “Short Experimental Poetic Filmmaking.” He admires world cinema from Africa to Far East to South America to Middle East to Eastern Europe. Some of his favorite filmmakers are: Yasujiro Ozu, Abbas Kiarostami, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Satyajit Ray, Akira Kurosawa, John Ford, Jean-Luc Godard, Federico Fellini, Osuman Sembene, Samir Makhmalbaf, Andrei Tarkovsky, Sergei Eisenstein, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and Gutierrez Alea. He would like to pursue his career both as an educator and filmmaker.
