I’m a social psychologist with a focus on interpersonal deception and lie-detection. My research examines the verbal and nonverbal behaviors that arise from the telling of lies and truths under various experimental conditions (e.g., high motivation versus low motivation, ‘real crime’ versus ‘mock crime,’ etc.). In addition to exploring the cues to lie-telling, I am also interested in the process of lie-detection; and my students and I are currently investigating a number of personal and situational factors relevant to individuals’ deception-detection capabilities. I teach courses in applied social psychology (including Environmental Psychology and Industrial-Organizational Psychology), as well as Experimental Psychology, Intro to Social Psychology, and General Psychology. I also collaborate with student researchers through the Directed Study course.
