Dr. Trent R. He is the Artistic Director of the
Symphonic Chorale of Southwest Florida and Musical Director and Chorus Master for Gulfshore Opera.
Under Brown’s direction the Bower School of Music Chamber Choir has performed at the Florida American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) convention (2015) and the Florida Music Educators Association (FMEA) conference (2013). His scholarly activities won him the FGCU Outstanding Research Oral Presentation at the 2012 Research Day on campus. He has published articles in the
International Journal of Research in Choral Singing and state and divisional ACDA publications, and frequently presents sessions at state and national conferences on choral literature and conducting techniques. He has prepared choral ensembles for choral-orchestral collaborations and recently conducted performances of Chichester Psalms (FGCU Choirs and Orchestra), Dido & Aeneas (FGCU Opera) and Mikado (Gulfshore Opera).
Dr. Brown previously taught public high school in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He has led several choir tours, both domestic and international, including a performance tour to China with the Waukesha South High School Choir in 2007 and a tour to Austria and Czech Republic in 2014 with the FGCU Chamber Choir where they sang at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna as part of the
Kunst und Kultur artist series. He has conducted children’s choirs and church choirs, and he always enjoys working with singers of any age.
Dr. Brown holds degrees from The University of Arizona (DMA), University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (MM) and University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire (BME). He is an active member of ACDA. He served as a member of the editorial board and as the editor-in-chief of
Melisma, the newsletter of the North Central ACDA Division, and he is currently the Florida Repertoire & Standards Chair for Community Choirs. He holds memberships in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) and the Voice Care Network.
When he is not making music, Dr. Brown can be found logging miles preparing for, or running in marathons. His favorite activities, however, include being a father to his two wonderful children – Elise and Miles – and being a husband to his lovely wife, Lindsay.
