Dr. Trent R. Brown, Assistant Professor of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University, joined the Bower School of Musicfaculty in 2010.  He directs the Chamber Choir and University Choir, and teaches courses in choral literature, conducting and secondary vocal methods.  Under Brown’s direction the Chamber Choir has been invited to sing at the 2013 Florida Music Educators Association (FMEA) conference and to join the professional company Opera Naples in a performance run of Mendelssohn’s Elijah  in March of 2013 that Dr. Brown will prepare.  In addition to these performances Dr. Brown maintains an active schedule of guest conducting andteaching including a two-day residency at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, regional honor choirs, and public school invitations. 

His scholarly activities won him the Florida Gulf Coast University Outstanding Research Oral Presentation at the2012 Research Day on campus.  He has presented at state and national conferences, most recently the American Choral Directors (ACDA) National Symposium on American Choral Music in Washington DC.  He has published articles in the International Journal of Research in Choral Singing and state and divisional ACDA publications. 

Dr. Brown taught public high school for eight years in Minnesota and Wisconsin. In 2001 his choir was invited to sing at the Minnesota State ACDA Convention. He has led several choir tours, both domestic and international, including a performance tour to China with the Waukesha South High School Choir in 2007. He conducted Choral Works, a select high school youth chorale that was part of The Children’s Choir of Waukesha in Wisconsin.  He has served as director of music for several successful church music programs and currently serves as Director of Music at Lamb of God in Fort Myers. He has sung as a professional chorister in the Tucson Symphony Orchestra Chorus and in the Tucson ChamberArtists. As a bass/baritone soloist he frequently performs recital and oratorio repertoire with church, community, and professional ensembles.

Dr. Brown attended the University of Arizona where he earned his of Doctor of Musical Arts in choral conducting and served as a faculty member after completion of his degree. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire and his Master of Music at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.  He is an active member of ACDA.  He served as a member of the editorial board and as the editor-in-chief of Melisma, the newsletter of the North Central ACDA Division. He holds memberships in the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) and the Voice Care Network. He has worked with singers of all ages and abilities, and he welcomes opportunities to clinic and adjudicate ensembles and soloists.

When he is not making music, Dr. Brown can be found logging miles preparing for, or running in marathons. His favorite activities, however, include being a father to his two wonderful children – Elise and Miles – and being a husband to his lovely wife, Lindsay.
