My Ph.D. training is in Applied Social Psychology with a concentration in Health Psychology from Colorado State University. My research interests include the study of attitudes and persuasion theory toward behavior change. More specifically, many of my previous research projects have focused on the application of social norms (Cialdini, 2003) to influence environmental and health behaviors through print media. Some of the target behaviors have included household energy conservation, wind power, automobile tire maintenance, oil disposal, reducing lawn fertilizer, reusing hotel towels, handwashing, college alcohol use and adolescent cigarette smoking. Some theoretical research questions have focused on message believability, norm interactions and “boomerang effects”. A boomerang effect is when an intervention produces a change in behavior opposite of what was originally intended. My future research interests include behaviors that have both environmental and health impacts such as automobile use. If you are interested in working in my directed study please send an email and I will reply with an application.

Courses Taught: My experience teaching various Psychology courses includes General, Experimental, Social, Environmental, Health, and Industrial/Organizational. I have also taught University Colloquium: A Sustainable Practice. I hope to teach Research Methods and Survey of Analytical Techniques in the future.
