Aaron Ichiro Hilbun has distinguished himself as an oboe soloist on four continents. He will be a featured soloist with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Trujillo at the 2007 Festival Internacional Bach in Peru, and has recently performed as a soloist or chamber musician in Puerto Rico, the UK and the Czech Republic. Dr. Hilbun is currently on the faculties of Florida Gulf Coast University and the Tennessee Governors School for the Arts and previously served on the faculties of Jacksonville State University (AL), Grinnell College, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Luther College's Dorian Music Camps, Illinois Summer Youth Music, in addition to having been head of the woodwind area at the Czech Music Camp for Youth in the Czech Republic. He is a member of the Sarasota Opera and Brevard Symphony (FL) Orchestras, principal oboist of the Northeast Symphony Orchestra (NH), and was previously principal oboist of the Orlando Philharmonic and Gainesville Chamber (FL) Orchestras. Additional orchestral credits include the American Wind Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony (FL) and Joffrey Ballet. Equally active in commercial as well as classical music, Dr. Hilbun is co-principal oboist of the Walt Disney World Orchestra and has toured and performed with artists such as Ray Charles, Dennis DeYoung (formerly of the band Styx), Clay Aiken and the Moody Blues, and has recorded for Warner Brothers. He holds degrees in oboe performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Iowa and the Florida State University, with additional study at Vanderbilt University, and studies in music theory at the University of South Florida. His oboe teachers include Sharon Sauser Kane, Bobby Taylor, Blaine Edlefsen, Nancy Ambrose King, Mark Weiger and Eric Ohlsson. In his spare time, Dr. Hilbun is an avid Devil Rays fan.
