Jennifer Wilhelms holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas.  She is presently a Ph.D. candidate at New York University.  Her dissertation research seeks to compare the value of multiple methods of theoretical analysis for performers of contemporary music.

Her teaching activities prior to coming to FGCU include serving as the assistant director of the NYU New Music Ensemble and teaching flute and coaching chamber ensembles at NYU.  In addition to teaching flute privately, she has taught at St. Joseph's School of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota, and served as a flute intern at the Marrowstone Music Festival in Bellingham, Washington.

As a flutist, Ms. Wilhelms has been an active performer of contemporary music, and has given world premiere performances of works by Marc-Antonio Consoli, Linda Buckley, and Wu Fei, among other composers.  Notable performances include an appearance at the NIME conference, and concerts with the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota and the Minneapolis-based new music group RenegadeEnsemble.  She has presented several recent recitals in New York, Minnesota, and Florida.

Ms. Wilhelms's principal flute teachers included Keith Underwood, Immanuel Davis, and Mary Karen Clardy, with additional studies with Robert Dick and Adam Kuenzel.

Aside from her work with the modern flute, Ms. Wilhelms has studied the baroque flute with Sandra Miller and performed with the baroque trio Les Zephires.  She has also studied the Alexander Technique for more than five years.
