Degree Requirements


Students have the option of a Major (BA) or Minor in Music

 

The Major in Music

Students in Music (BA) will complete the SUS Common Prerequisites (28 hours), a Music Core (22 hours) and then will choose either a Performance Concentration or a Music Education Concentration.

Additional electives may be required to reach a minimum of 120 credit hours for the baccalaureate degree. At least 48 of the 120 hours must be at the upper division (courses numbered 3000 and above). Please also see the Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts Degree earlier in this section.

*Students may be exempt based on performance on the piano placement exam.

 **Applied Music study must occur i five separate semesters, including one at the upper level. Required Theory and Sight Singing courses my be exempted by obtaining an equivalency through a Music Placement Test offered by the School of Music. Determinations of equivalency will be maade by the faculty on the basis of the test. Students can then select from the following to complete the remaining 4-8 hours.
