Dr. Tobin Stewart, Orchestral Activities and Assistant Professor of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University, earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in orchestral conducting and Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
Before moving to Florida, Dr. Stewart served as the Associate Conductor of the University of Nebraska Symphony Orchestra, where he also taught conducting, music theory, and aural skills in the UNL School of Music. Dr. Stewart directed the Nebraska Wesleyan University Orchestra/ Lincoln Civic Orchestra while also teaching Beginning and Advanced Conducting.
Dr. Stewart has studied conducting with Thomas Wilkins, Mark Gibson, Donald Schleicher, Tyler Goodrich White, Ovidiu Balan, Robert Gutter, and Charles Gambetta in both the United States and Romania.
Before beginning his doctoral program, Dr. Stewart taught high school orchestra, band, and choir for eight years in Omaha, Bellevue, and Lincoln, Nebraska. Dr. Stewart continues to work with high school ensembles as an adjudicator and a clinician.
Dr. Stewart is a member of Music Educators National Conference, Florida Orchestra Association, College Orchestra Directors Association, Conductor’s Guild, College Music Society, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
Outside of the music world, Dr. Stewart devotes his time to his three kids, Elijah, Samuel, and Lydiana, and his wife, Kirsten. He also enjoys backpacking and mountain biking the Big Sky Country of his home state, Montana.
