Sharon Isern is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and has been at Florida Gulf Coast University since 2004. She received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University and her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She conducted postdoctoral fellowships in molecular virology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Tulane University. Before coming to FGCU, she worked as a Research Assistant Professor at Tulane University. Dr. Isern has received research support from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, and the US Department of Agriculture.
