Ron Hefner began teaching at FGCU when it opened in 1997. He joined the Department of Language and Literature full-time in 2004 and currently teaches composition, literature, professional writing, and journalism. Before going into full-time teaching, Ron worked as a newspaper editor, reporter, and music journalist.

Aside from his teaching duties, Ron continues a 35-year career as a jazz musician, having performed in over 40 states and in Canada. He performs weekly in various Southwest Florida venues.
