Other Languages

Second language acquisition is an integral part of higher learning in today’s globalized society, enhancing students’ career options and enriching their personal lives. Whether you are planning a career in business, hospitality, health care, social services, international relations or diplomacy, foreign language proficiency will give you the edge you need. Research also shows that foreign language learning improves critical thinking and problem solving ability, even increasing verbal and mathematical scores on standardized tests.

The Department of Language and Literature currently offers Introductory, Intermediate, or Advanced study in Spanish, French, German and Beginning Chinese. We also offer a Minor in Spanish and plan to expand into additional languages in future semesters. Because we believe that the learning experience should extend beyond the classroom, the Department of Language and Literature also offers Study Abroad and Summer Immersion programs. Our dedicated Foreign Language faculty regularly organizes international luncheons, foreign film screenings, language tables, and a range of other events open to all students seeking cross-cultural enrichment opportunities.
