Admissions Information

Getting Started

Please visit the Office of Graduate Studies website www.fgcu.edu/graduate or contact Graduate Studies at 239-590-7988 or graduate@fgcu.edu for an application for admission and additional information about the application process.

Program Admission Requirements

Admission to the English (MA) program is competitive and selective. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements for consideration may not necessarily be admitted into the program. Successful applicants generally can demonstrate sophisticated achievement in composing literary analysis, and thus the writing sample is perhaps the most significant part of the application package.

 Minimum Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in English or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university;
  • A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0
  • A combined score of at least 1000 on the GRE
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) for international students from countries where English is not the primary language.
  • The names (include contact information) of two college or university faculty members who will serve as references in support of your application;
  • A statement of personal goals (indicate whether you are interested in a teaching assistantship);
  • A writing sample of 8-10 pages.
