Teaching and research interests: Composition, British Literature, Writing and Environmental Biology
Linda Rowland is an Instructor of English at Florida Gulf Coast University where she has taught since the Fall of 2000. During that time she has taught a variety of writing and literature courses for the Department of Language and Literature: Composition I and II, Professional Writing, as well as various British Literature courses at the Sophomore and Junior level. She is one of the founding members of FGCU’s first learning community, the Learning Academy, and remains involved with the Learning Academy as it completes its fifth year. Within the Learning Academy, Rowland team teaches an Environmental Biology/Writing course for Composition II students that is one of the highlights of her academic year; students learn about their South West Florida environment through hands-on field trips and then base their writing on their experiences. She is also a member of the First Year Experience Task Force and serves as the Coordinator for the Writing Program. She has received an honorary membership to the Freshman Honor Society, Phi Eta Sigma, an award that was bestowed upon her by the students themselves, was nominated for the junior faculty teaching excellence award, and was invited to participate in the Last Lecture Series hosted by the University Honors Program. Currently, her primary areas of scholarship are pedagogically driven. Linda Rowland has attended numerous conferences with teams of colleagues to present panels highlighting innovative teaching strategies at FGCU. Further, she spent the past three years working on a FIPSE funded grant with representatives from five other universities who sought to develop assessment strategies for writing that could be shared across institutions.
