The History M.A. program aims to advance students' skills in historical research and related work, and to enable them to develop a sophisticated and complex understanding of a range of historical events, issues, and debates within a global context. It is intended to prepare students for further academic study (Ph.D programs in history or related subjects) and to equip them with the necessary skills to think critically and to practice history in the public and private sectors as educators and business professionals, as well as filling the role of public historian in today's globalized societies.
Through its curriculum, internships, and rigorous academic and intellectual standards, the M.A. in History will assist FGCU in pursuing academic excellence, promoting environmental sustainability, embracing diversity, nurturing community partnerships, valuing public service, encouraging civic responsibility, cultivating habits of lifelong learning, and keeping the advancement of knowledge and pursuit of truth as noble ideals at the heart of the university's purpose.
