Study Abroad in Spain
Study Abroad Program to Asturias, Spain - Summer 2007
Florida Gulf Coast University is sponsoring a summer study abroad program to Asturias, Spain, for May and June of 2007. Students participating will be able to enroll in up to 12 credits of FGCU courses in Spanish, Anthropology and Interdisciplinary Studies during the Summer A session. Also included are three cultural/educational excursions and the opportunity to earn service learning credit.
Courses will be taught by FGCU faculty and professors from the University of Oviedo. Students will stay with Spanish families in Gijón, a city on the coast of Asturias, an autonomous region in northern Spain. All courses will be held at the regional campus of the University of Oviedo within commuting distance of homestays. Students do not need to be able to speak Spanish to participate.
The principality of Asturias lies between Cantabria and Galicia. The Costa Verde (Green Coast) is known as one of the major attractions of northern Spain. The mountains of the Picos de Europa can be seen just 40 kilometers from the coast and many natural parks and areas of historical and cultural interest can be found nearby. Pre-historic cave paintings, ancient Celtic settlements and Roman ruins are just a few of the treasures of Asturias.
