Community
The Center for Environmental and Sustainability Education seeks to serve the local community of the Western Everglades and Barrier Islands; we welcome the involvement of members of the community in Center activities. Primary involvement has been through attendance at Center Signature Events, including the Rachel Carson Distinguished Lecture and Terry Tempest Williams Student Dialogue. These events have been cosponsored by community partners at Saint Michael and All Angles Church on Sanibel Island and the Thomas A. Edison Congregational church in Downtown Fort Myers.
We cooperate with community organizations which share our mission. For example, we are engaged with the following groups:
ECOSanibel (Earth Charter of Sanibel), the Earth Charter advocacy NGO for Southwest Florida.
Yat Kitischee Native Center, Naples, Florida
People United to Restore our Rivers and Estuaries, Sanibel Island, Florida
Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, Sanibel Island, Florida
Southwest Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, co-hosts of the Homero Aridjis 2007 Rachel Carson Distinguished Lecture
We welcome inquiries and suggestions for further community involvement.
