Mary Evelyn Tucker Chair, Forum on Religion and Ecology
Mary Evelyn Tucker is the author of Moral and Spiritual Cultivation in Japanese Neo-Confucianism (SUNY, 1989) and Worldly Wonder: Religions Enter Their Ecological Phase ( Open Court , 2003). She also edited two volumes on Confucian Spirituality (Crossroad 2003, 2004) with Tu Weiming and the Religions of the World and Ecology series (Harvard 1997-2004) with John Grim. Her book on The Philosophy of Qi is forthcoming from Columbia University Press.
She received her PhD from Columbia in East Asian religions. From 1993 - 1996 she was a National Endowment for the Humanities Chair at Bucknell University and until 2005 was a professor of religion at Bucknell. She is a visiting professor at Yale in the Institute for Social and Public Policy and a Research Associate at the Harvard-Yenching Institute and the Reischauer Institute at Harvard.
She is a member of the Interfaith Partnership on the Environment at the United Nations Environment Programme and was a member of the International Earth Charter Drafting Committee from 1997-2000.
