About Us

Our Mission

The mission of our division is to: meet public sector training, development, and technical assistance needs; provide educational opportunities that enrich the intellectual, civic, economic, and cultural life of the region and the state; and, through the Renaissance Academy, offer retirees and other citizens educational programming that keeps their minds intellectually, creatively, and culturally active.

Course Definitions

Our division serves many different student constituents and to that end, here are definitions of the types of programs and courses we offer:

Credit Classes – Credit classes are those offered for traditional college credits and include courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level.  Students must meet FGCU admission requirements to enroll and attend for-credit courses.

Non Credit – Non credit courses typically include classes offered for personal enrichment.  Most non-credit courses typically do not have grading requirements or require testing as part of class completion.  The Renaissance Academy offers a great variety of non-credit courses.

CEU – The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) was created to provide a standard unit of measure, to quantify continuing adult education and training activities, and serve the diversity of providers, activities, and purposes in adult education.  CEUs are commonly used by individuals to supply an employer or prospective employer with information on continuing education and training experiences and to provide documentation to registration boards, certification boards, or professional organizations.  One CEU is defined as ten contact hours of participation in organized continuing education activity held under responsible, qualified direction and instruction.
