Palliative Care Conference Information

 
 

2013 Conference Information:

The Southwest Florida Coalition Palliative Care and FGCU's Continuing Education & Off-Campus Programs requests proposals for conference presentations at the 4th Biennial Body, Mind, Spirit: An Interdisciplinary Approach: Managing End-of-Life Care.  The next Conference, to be held Fall of 2013 in Fort Myers, Florida, USA is dedicated to improving end-of-life care through research, education, and dialogue.

Presentations, workshops, or posters should focus on clinically, psychosocially or spiritually relevant topics, or specific methods related to interdisciplinary palliative care.  Suggested topics, based upon past conference evaluation data, include Ethics, Psycho-social adjustments to EOL, Communication, Complicated Grief, Spiritual Needs, Cultural Issues, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Complementary Treatments such as Massage, Art and Music Therapy.

Presentations should be one hour in duration (including Q&A) and have broad interest across a variety of healthcare disciplines in a large-group setting.  Workshops should be interactive, employ a variety of teaching modalities, offer handouts for home reference, and focus on teaching skills or concepts that can be grasped comfortably by groups of up to 25-30 in a 1.5-hour time frame.  Poster presentations are limited to 24"x36" in size.  Interdisciplinary collaboration is encouraged.

Acceptance Criteria:  Presentation and workshop proposals will be evaluated according to the following criteria: 

Timeliness and applicability to the fields of palliative and hospice care;
Clarity of presentation aims and concepts;
Degree of evidence-based content.

OLE for Health & Human Services

The first seven Online Education: Healthcare - Palliative and Hospice Care modules were developed from presentations at the regional healthcare conference held in Fort Myers, FL, Body, Mind, Spirit: An Interdisciplinary Approach: Managing End of Life Care, presented by Florida Gulf Coast University, Lee Memorial Health System in conjunction with The Southwest Florida Coalition Improving End-of-Life Care held in Estero, Florida.  Other modules are in development in cooperation with the Fort Myers Ministerial Association and other organizations.
