The Prospective Athletic Training Students (PATS) program serves an important function in the athletic training curriculum at Florida Gulf Coast University. This program has been developed for any undergraduate student interested in pursuing a career in athletic training. Prospective Athletic Training students are able to examine the FGCU athletic training room by observing and assisting in the athletic training room. Along with clinical experiences, the program is also designed to provide instruction on the introductory principles of athletic training through bi-monthly in-services throughout the year.
The PATS program provides an opportunity to meet and work with the athletic training staff members and current students in the athletic training education program. It also helps the prospective student to seek other shadowing experience possibilities in partial fulfillment of the 50 hour observational hour requirement for the application.
The PATS meeting schedule is determined each semester; however the first organizational meeting is always the 2nd Tuesday of classes, each semester. This initial meeting takes place at 6PM in the FGCU Athletic Training Room located in Alico Area. All interested students should attend this meeting to become familiar with the FGCU ATEP and the PATS program. Anyone interested in joining the PATS program after in the initial meeting should contact the Undergraduate Program Director, Undergraduate Clinical Coordinator, and the Director of the PATS program
