Tony Burkett earned a Master of Science degree in exercise physiology and cardiac rehabilitation from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1988 and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from West Virginia University in 1981. He was certified by The American College of Sports Medicine as a Clinical Exercise Specialist (CES) in 1989 and has maintained certification for over 20 years.  Previous employment experiences include serving as a cardiac rehabilitation specialist at Lee Memorial Health System in Fort Myers and as a research assistant at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Mr. Burkett has collaborated on a number of federally funded research projects and has presented and published several papers in the areas of cardiac rehabilitation and cardiovascular risk modification. He is currently an Instructor II in the Department of Health Sciences at FGCU.
