Madelyn Isaacs, Ph.D. has had an active professional life in Universities and as a practicing mental health professional for almost 40 years.  She is currently a professor of counseling and Department chair at FGCU.  As a founding faculty member (having worked at USF in Fort Myers for 10 years prior to FGCU’s opening in 1997) she has served as the College of Education’s Associate Dean and has helped the School and Mental Health Counseling Program tracks achieve national prominence with a Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accreditation twice.  She has served six years as United Faculty of Florida, FGCU Chapter president.

Madelyn earned her doctorate in Research and Counseling at Hofstra University in New York and her Master’s Degree from the University of Connecticut.  She has taught most of the courses in the program’s inventory with specialties in the areas of Mental Health Counseling and Theories, Legal and Ethical Issues in Counseling, Clinical Supervision, and Consultation.    She has published more than 30 articles, several book chapters, and has made dozens of professional presentations on areas including resiliency, solution focused organizational leadership, counseling theories and practices, legal and ethical issues, collaborative consultation, and data driven decision-making, among more current topics.  She has also lead several state and federal grants and evaluation teams. 

In the local Southwest Florida community she is known for having co-founded the Public Schools Enrichment Partnership, for chairing the board as well as long-term membership at the Lee Mental Health Center now a merged organization, SalusCare, as an advocate for counseling and mental health issues in schools and throughout the community, and for her involvement in career and workforce Issues.   She consults with school districts and other organizations concerning data driven methods, collaborative consultation, and solution focused leadership.  She served on several state counseling association boards and was a President of the Florida School Counselors Association. She has been recognized with state and local awards including Individual  and Team Service as well as a Senior Faculty teaching Awards at Florida Gulf Coast University; Advocate of the Year, Florida Counseling Association;  Student Services Award, University of South Florida at Fort Myers; and the Crystal Heart Award for Community Service , Gulf Coast Council of Girl Scouts. 

She has lived in Fort Myers for the last 29 years with her husband where they raised their now two adult sons.  Her older son earned his undergraduate degree at FGCU and her younger son earned his MBA at FGCU. She is originally from New York.
