Dr. Shamus joined the faculty at Florida Gulf Coast University in 2011. Prior to his arrival, Dr. Shamus spent 14 years on faculty at Nova Southeastern University teaching in the Physical Therapy and Osteopathic Medicine programs. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from Florida International University. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Biomechanical trauma from Lynn University/University of Miami, a PhD in Educational Leadership from Lynn University and his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Sage University. Dr. Shamus is an author of two textbooks, Effective Documentation for Physical Therapy Professionals and Sports Injuries Prevention and Rehabilitation. He has participated in numerous national and international presentations as well as authoring multiple chapters and journal articles.
Eric Shamus is an active member in the APTA. He hosts 2 district meetings a year out of the four. He is the chief district representative for the FPTA assembly. At the FPTA state level, he served in 2011 on the Temporary License Task Force. For the last 11 years, including 2011, he is a delegate from Florida for the APTA House of Delegates. In the local community, he participated in Healthy Kids day for the Pembroke Pines YMCA. Eric Shamus is active in the Florida Consortium of Clinical Educators (FCCE). He designed, maintains and updates the website www.fcce-fpta.org.
