Florida Board of Regents accepts the offer by Alico, Inc. of land for new university

Dr. Roy E. McTarnaghan appointed founding president by the Florida Board of Regents

 

 

 

University opens temporary offices in Lee County Administration Building

 

 

 

Creation of the Foundation, later named Florida Gulf Coast University Foundation, and the election of its first chairman, W. Thomas Howard

University moves to Midway Center

 

 

 

Florida Legislature adopts bill naming the new institution Florida Gulf Coast University
