More than 1,300 degrees awarded at spring commencement
Florida Gulf Coast University conferred 1,360 degrees on students during spring commencement exercises Saturday, May 4 at Alico Arena.
Students who completed their degree requirements in the spring semester joined the ranks of 13,473 FGCU alumni.
State Sen. Garrett Richter, R-Naples, delivered the keynote speech at morning and afternoon ceremonies, urging graduates to “enjoy the journey” of life and take pride in their accomplishments and in their alma mater.
“Stay in touch with each other, build relationships and help each other,” Richter said. “Make plans that will cause you to reach high.”
FGCU President Wilson G. Bradshaw conferred degrees on an estimated 1,200 students taking part in commencement.
Communications was the most represented bachelor’s program with 119 degrees. Elementary Education had 78, and Management had 67. At the graduate level, 34 MBAs were awarded.
The second set of graduates received a Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) from the College of Health Professions; 19 students received the clinical doctorates.
