Student Demographics. FGCU’s diverse student body is at 11,119 students for 2009-10. Students come from 45 states, the District of Columbia and 88 countries in 52 undergraduate and 32 graduate degree programs. Entering high school students have an average grade point average of 3.34 and SAT score of 1531.

Faculty and Staff. With more than 1,200 faculty and staff employed, FGCU features small class sizes and individual attention to every student. FGCU offers one of the most comprehensive technologically-advanced campuses in the world, providing continuous technology advancement, and rich support and tools for students.

Colleges and Schools. Five colleges offer 52 undergraduate degree programs and 32 graduate degree programs in Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Health Professions and Professional Studies. Professional schools include Engineering, Music and Nursing. Business, criminal justice, nursing, elementary education and communication are among the most popular. FGCU also offers the Collegiate High School.

Campus. Students enjoy a mild climate, lots of sunshine and clean air at FGCU. Located on 760 pristine acres in the heart of Southwest Florida, FGCU carefully preserved its natural location to serve as a living laboratory. The campus of FGCU currently includes 77 buildings and 3 parking garages. In 2010, FGCU opens two additional structures: Music Education and Performance Building and Naples Botanical Garden Classroom and Laboratory Building.

Housing. The nearly 2,800 students who live on campus enjoy either dormitory-style housing or lakefront apartment-style residences that are completely furnished, feature full-size kitchens and living rooms, and provide high-speed Internet access. Amenities include a swimming pool, lake water sports, barbecue areas, beach volleyball, automated laundry facilities, and full-time live-in professional staff.

In addition, FGCU is within minutes of downtown Fort Myers and Naples, and the beautiful sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico.

Clubs and Organizations. In addition to getting together with friends on the lakefront for sailing, FGCU has over 135 active clubs and organizations ranging in scope from ethnic to education and recreation to honorary, offering students opportunities to develop leadership skills in areas related to their personal interests.

Future Growth. FGCU plans for the Music Education and Performance Building to be a regional center, offering arts instruction in addition to public performances that contribute to the region’s economic growth, cultural richness and environmental sustainability. At 23,000 square feet, the acoustically superb facility includes a 3,260-square-foot, 196-seat recital hall and an equally large rehearsal hall, in addition to classrooms, faculty studios for individual instruction, student practice rooms and a music library.  This specialty building will be completed by the fall of 2010-2011.

Alumni. FGCU has worldwide more than 10,000 alumni receiving one or more FGCU degrees.

Research and Fundraising. FGCU's annual Research Day showcases student and faculty accomplishments in academic study. The award amount for Research and Sponsored Programs was $14.8 million for 2008-09. Since FGCU’s opening in 1997, the total award amount has been $119 million. Private funds raised for 2008-09 include $9.1 million from the FGCU Foundation and $1.4 million from WGCU Public Media.


Research Day
