Dunk City Debuts 2013 Season on ESPN's Midnight Madness Friday, Oct. 18

It doesn't matter if you know a dunk from a dribble or an airball from an alley-oop, you can't help but be caught up in the infectious fun that is FGCU men's basketball. Everyone is invited to Alico Arena on Friday, Oct. 18, to take part in Dunk City’s jubilant return, set to be televised on ESPNU.

For the first time, the FGCU's men's basketball team will be among nine college programs nationwide to be featured on ESPNU's Midnight Madness coverage. The event, Dunk City After Dark, runs from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday. Admission is free.

Midnight Madness is a time-honored tradition at schools around the country. It began in 1971, when Lefty Driesell, then the coach at Maryland, started his team working out at three minutes past midnight on Oct. 15, the first day teams could officially practice. Since then, the midnight start has shifted from a practice to a high-spirited pep rally, complete with parties, contests and other revelry.

Besides FGCU, ESPN will cover the University of Connecticut, Duke, Kentucky, Memphis, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, Syracuse and Wichita State.

To ensure a good seat, make sure to arrive in time for the volleyball game against Lipscomb, which starts at 7 p.m. Special discounted tickets are available for $3, which guarantees a seat for the Dunk City event afterwards.

Reserve seats by visiting the Alico Arena Ticket Office, calling (239) 590-7145 or logging on to
