3/22/2001

FORT MYERS, FL - Southwest Florida is invited to attend "March of the Living," a remembrance program commemorating victims of the Holocaust with a candle lighting ceremony and presentation by keynote speaker Judi Davis from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, March 26 at Florida Gulf Coast University in Howard Hall. FGCU, the Jewish Federation of Collier County and the Jewish Federation of Lee and Charlotte Counties are cosponsoring the event.

Davis is the daughter of a Holocaust survivor. Her presentation is designed for middle school children to adult audiences. The event includes Alicia Klein's historical photograph collection of the 1988 inaugural "March of the Living."

"March of the Living" is an international educational program that brings Jewish teens from all over the world to Poland on Yom Hashoah, the Holocaust Memorial Day, to retrace the infamous death march from Auschwitz to Birkenau. Participants continue on to Israel. As an accredited comprehensive public university, FGCU addresses the higher educational needs of Southwest Florida and provides a learning-centered environment that offers high quality educational opportunities for the general public, such as sponsoring the Holocaust remembrance.
