FGCU Hosts Local Congressional Art Exhibit
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University will kick-off the local 2001 Congressional Art Exhibit with a reception at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 20 in the FGCU Library Gallery with U.S. Rep. Porter Goss (FL-14) on hand to honor winners of the competition. The area event is part of a nationwide contest, "An Artistic Discovery," which recognizes the creative talents of high
Local judges for the competition are Barbara Albin (Charlotte County), Ron Bishop (Lee County) and Herchel Pollard (Collier County).
Each Southwest Florida public and private high school was invited to submit a piece to compete for the Grand Award and the chance to have their
work hang in the U.S. Capitol, for one year, alongside winning pieces from around the country. In addition, Merit Awards will be issued and three First Place Awards will be chosen to hang in each of Congressman Goss's
Hosting art exhibits is one of the ways FGCU, an accredited comprehensive public university, addresses the higher educational needs of
Southwest Florida and provides a learning-centered environment that offers high quality educational opportunities for the general public. The Congressional Art Exhibit will be on display in the FGCU Library Gallery until Friday, May 25.
The gallery is in the FGCU Library. The campus is east of I-75 between Exits 19 and 20, off of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is free.
