FGCU Student Receives Collier Legal Support Professionals Scholarship
5/15/2001

FORT MYERS, FL - Collier Legal Support Professionals recently awarded Florida Gulf Coast University student Lydia Cooley one of their annual $500 scholarships.

Collier Legal Support Professionals established the scholarship fund for students pursuing a profession in the legal field.

Cooley is a junior majoring in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences and maintains a 3.97 grade point average. She volunteers her time as a committee chair for the Southwest Florida Model United Nations Conference. Cooley is also a member of the Golden Key Honor Society.

“I plan to graduate Florida Gulf Coast University with a bachelor’s degree and I plan to attend law school beginning in the fall of 2002,” Cooley said in her application for the award.

“I want to possibly study intellectual property rights. I am planning my career one stage at a time, but I plan to be involved in politics in order to address social issues. I may work as a legal representative in a non-profit organization. I am concerned with humanitarian issues worldwide.”

“My decision to study law is not based on a desire for prestige or wealth. I want to gain experience and knowledge in the legal world in order to do something important with my life.”

FGCU is an accredited comprehensive public university created to address the higher educational needs of Southwest Florida and is dedicated to providing a learning-centered environment that offers high quality educational opportunities.
