"Facilitating Public Involvement" Workshop Offered by FGCU Florida Institute of Government

Civic and neighborhood leaders, elected officials, program administrators and staff, planners, engineers and others who interact regularly with the public are invited to attend a one-day workshop “Facilitating Public Involvement…Enhancing Quality of Life Through Community Collaboration” presented by the Florida Institute of Government at Florida Gulf Coast University from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7. The workshop will be held at the FGCU Center for Leadership & Innovation in the Walden Center.

Objectives:
·Conduct community assessments
·Design decision making and participation processes
·Integrate expert and interest group input into problem-solving
·Involve those not at the table: constituents, decision-makers, media and others
·Coordinate mediation and facilitation processes with formal decision-making
·Coordinate mediation and facilitation processes with formal decision-making

Camilo Ascarate and Tom Taylor are instructors for the program.

The central purpose of the Institute is to help promote superior performance in government and nonprofit organizations through quality training, consulting and technical assistance. As an accredited comprehensive public university, FGCU addresses the higher educational needs of Southwest Florida and provides a learning-centered environment that offers high quality educational opportunities for the general public, such as administratively hosting the Institute.
