Cape Coral Residents Soon Will See FGCU's Name in Lights
8/31/2001

The people of the City of Cape Coral may soon have more opportunities to attend live plays presented by Florida Gulf Coast University if a tentative agreement between FGCU and Cape Coral’s Cultural Park Theatre goes through as planned for the 2001-2001 season.

“We feel this is a ‘win-win’ situation for the University’s theater program, our theater and the City of Cape Coral,” said Marilyn Grayboys, president of the Cultural Park Theatre Company. “We look forward to the alliance we are forging at this moment.”

The agreement in process will allow FGCU to present three of the Cultural Park Theatre’s eight scheduled plays. If the agreement is signed, FGCU will present “Nunsense II, The Second Coming” on Fridays through Sundays, Oct. 12-14 and 19-21; “A Streetcar Named Desire” on Fridays through Sundays, Feb. 15-17 and 22-24, 2002; and “Lend Me a Tenor” on Friday through Tuesday, March 29 to April 2, 2002.

“While our students will enjoy performing in a real theater with lights, sound and scenery, it will be a great learning experience for them,” said Hank Diers, FGCU Director of Theater. “Becoming a part of the Cultural Park Theatre Company season means also that we will have the joy of performing for their audience as well.”

FGCU has performed in the Cultural Park Theatre in past seasons, but not as a part of the regular season.

Tickets for performances in the 187-seat theater are available at the Cultural Park Theatre box office located on Cultural Park Boulevard.
