"Business Grammar Update" Workshop Offered by FGCU Florida Institute of Government
FORT MYERS, FL - Managers and employees from the public and nonprofit sectors are invited to attend a half-day course “Business Grammar Update” presented by the Florida Institute of Government at Florida Gulf Coast University as part of the its Administrative Assistant Series from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13. The workshop will be at the Center for Professional Development at Edison Community College.
The course will teach current guidelines for correct punctuation, capitalization, usage, format and spelling. Participants will learn how to avoid embarrassing mistakes and project a credible, professional image that will increase confidence. Includes a 100-page resource manual.
·Update knowledge of what is considered to be correct usage of grammar
·Learn the underlying logic of punctuation and sentence structure
·Differentiate between active and passive voice; construct clear, focused and complete sentences
·Use your computer’s grammar checker to spot mistakes
·Identify the errors that computers often miss
Jim Jacoby is instructor for the program. He has more than 30 years experience in communications management for several Fortune 500 companies and has owned his own consulting business since 1977. His expertise is business writing, specializing in assisting organizations with their policies and procedures. Currently, he teaches on the adjunct faculty staff of two colleges and a university, and in-house at more than two-dozen organizations in Florida, Minnesota and Oklahoma. The author of a textbook and many publications, Jacoby holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Pennsylvania State University.
