Golf Coach, PGA Pro Invite Junior Players to New Summer Program at FGCU
5/14/2002

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University’s men’s golf coach Jim Suttie invites golfers ages 12 to 17 from all over Florida to participate in the first Junior Development Golf Program June 23 through June 28 at FGCU with PGA golfer Chip Beck.

Beck, a PGA touring professional and a member of past Ryder Cup teams, will join Suttie and several other instructors to coach only 40 registrants during the six-day program. Suttie expects slots to fill early because a small class size with many coaches provides for attendees to receive daily near-individualized instruction.

Participants will stay five nights in FGCU’s acclaimed lakeside residence halls where swimming, beach volleyball, tennis and water sports are available. Registration includes all meals, housing, instruction, a souvenir shirt and awards.

Under Suttie’s direction, FGCU is currently ranked no. 4 in the nation by NAIA collegiate polls. Suttie consistently appears on the Golf Channel as a guest instructor. He is a past PGA Teaching Professional of the Year, has instructed many members on the PGA tour and coached at Northwestern University.

FGCU assistant coach J.P. Meyer, Shadow Wood professionals Marty Hall and Scott Yates, and members of FGCU men’s and women’s golf teams will also instruct during the program.

FGCU and Shadow Wood Country Club, in The Brooks development, are hosting the program. The Bonita Bay course provides players with large practice tees, putting and chipping areas, and a state of the art teaching facility.

Registration is $1,050.

For more information about the program, contact Kathleen Henrichsmeyer in FGCU Athletics at (941) 590-7012 or Meyer at (941) 590-7005.
