Renaissance Academy Offers Course for Book Enthusiasts
6/27/2002

FORT MYERS, FL - Book enthusiasts will enjoy “The Art of Literature: Understanding the Novelist’s Craft,” a four-part course sponsored by Florida Gulf Coast University’s Renaissance Academy at 10 a.m. on four consecutive Thursdays beginning July 11 at the FGCU Naples Center.

Peg Kaiser, an educator and former dean of women in higher education, leads the group in making the leap from “looking” to “seeing.” Through selected books, the course illuminates the literary elements of plot, theme, character, setting and mood.

Participants will discover parallels between the art of the painter and the art of the novelist through visual examples and class discussion.

Attendees do not need any special expertise but selected reading is required.

Course fee is $15 for Renaissance Academy members and $25 for others. The class meets on Thursdays, July 11, 18, 25 and Aug. 1.

FGCU created the Renaissance Academy on the premise that learning should never stop and that keeping the mind intellectually, creatively and culturally active fundamentally enhances the quality of life.

As part of FGCU’s commitment to serving the Southwest Florida region, the Renaissance Academy offers courses both on campus and at off-site locations.

For more information about the Renaissance Academy, membership, or other available summer courses, contact the Renaissance Academy at (941) 590-1095 or renaissance@fgcu.edu.
