Students Compete This Weekend in American Advertising Federation Competition
FORT MYERS, FL - Five Florida Gulf Coast University students will compete against nine other schools in the American Advertising Federation’s 4th District Student Advertising Competition Friday and Saturday, April 11-12 at Northwood University in West Palm Beach.
Associate professor of advertising Ludmilla Wells says FGCU’s team will compete well.
“The advertising program in the FGCU College of Business is interdisciplinary. By integrating mass communication principles with business practices, students learn the ‘how and why’ behind marketing, advertising and public relations decision-making,” Wells said.
The heart of the annual event is a case study that highlights a national corporate sponsor’s real-world advertising situation. The teams develop comprehensive campaigns to meet the sponsor’s objectives. District winners compete at the national conference in June in Los Angeles.
More than 6,500 students on 210 campuses are being challenged by 2003 sponsor Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. to develop a national marketing and communications strategy to continue building awareness of its revolutionary Toyota Matrix Cross-over Utility Vehicle, or CUV. TMS says because the CUV combines hot rod styling, Sport Utility Vehicle versatility and all the functionality that could be needed, the car is especially appealing to the youth market.
Local advertising federation members, business associates, executives, recruiters and media representatives are invited to attend a Student Welcome Reception Friday evening, April 11.
Area professionals are also encouraged to attend team presentations being judged on Saturday, April 12. The winning team from Florida, which will represent the 4th District at the national competition, will be announced after judging at a celebration honoring participants.
