After Serving Florida Higher Education for More Than Three Decades, Bullock Decides It is Time to Step Down
FORT MYERS, FL - After serving the State University System of Florida for more than 33 years and Florida Gulf Coast University since 1994 as founding vice president for Administrative Services, Curtis Bullock has announced his retirement and resignation.
“I have thought about the decision very carefully, and I have come to this transition with mixed emotions,” Bullock said.
Bullock says it is the right decision for him at this time and adds that he has had a full and rewarding career within the university system of Florida.
Currently in the state’s Deferred Retirement Option Plan, called DROP, Bullock was planning to end his career in January 2005 but decided to step down now to allow FGCU enough time to fill the position and ensure a smooth transition. He will continue working part-time at FGCU on special projects.
“Curtis is highly regarded throughout Florida’s higher education system and the State of Florida for his vast knowledge and experience, and FGCU has been fortunate to be the beneficiary of his administrative leadership,” President William C. Merwin said in a memo to employees today.
“He has agreed to remain in his vice president position until a replacement is found, and after that, will assist FGCU as executive director of the Florida Gulf Coast University Financing Corporation for future debt financings and construction projects, as well as our proposed charter developmental research school.”
Assistant to the president for Government Relations Tom Healy will chair the search committee for Bullock’s replacement. The search will be nationwide.
“Let me take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation and congratulations to Curtis for all he has contributed to Florida Gulf Coast University and to the state university system through these many years, and also to thank him for agreeing to assist FGCU with these important projects that will greatly benefit from his experience,” Merwin said.
