FGCU Opens "The Art of Dining" June 24
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University opens Tina Howe's hilarious comedy "The Art of Dining," 8 p.m., Thursday, June 24 at the Arts Complex Black Box Theater. Other evening performances are June 25 and 26. Matinees are 2 p.m. June 26 and 27.
The play centers on Ellen and Cal, the proud owners and sole staff of the elegant new gourmet restaurant The Golden Carousel.
While Ellen focuses on preparing exciting gourmet dishes, Cal is more intent upon packing in as many guests as possible in order to pay back the loan he borrowed to start the place up.
Guests include a trio of women out for a night on the town, a married couple celebrating their anniversary and a neurotic writer who is meeting her publisher for the first time. As each party's private drama unfolds, Cal eats many of the key ingredients for the food that Ellen is preparing and the evening spirals out of control.
Village Voice says "The Art of Dining" is, "A spicy compote of social satire, slapstick zaniness, sight gags and the funniest play I've seen in a long time."
General admission is $10 and student admission is $5 with an FGCU ID.
Tickets may be purchased beginning Monday, June 14 in Arts Complex 107, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Tickets are also available at the door one hour before performances.
