FGCU Submits SACS Compliance Certification for Reaccreditation

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University recently submitted its compliance certification as the initial step in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools process for reaffirmation of accreditation.

Numerous groups and individuals participated in the preparation of the compliance certification, which documents FGCU's determination of compliance with the more than 70 requirements and standards adopted by the Commission in December 2001.

Over the next two months, a group of Commission-appointed peer evaluators will consider the FGCU's compliance certification and provide feedback to both FGCU and to a second group of peer evaluators who will visit the campus March 28-30, 2005.

The on-campus visit will focus on the FGCU's quality enhancement plan, a major initiative to enhance student learning in the areas of ecological perspective and community involvement.

Accreditation is a validation of the quality of the educational programs and services provided by an institution and a requirement for participation in federal student financial aid programs. FGCU earned initial accreditation in 1999.

The Commission will take action on the FGCU's reaffirmation of accreditation in December 2005.

FGCU's compliance reports are available at .
