FGCU Hosts Biotechnology Seminar April 12 to Discuss Vesicular Stomatitis Virus
FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Gulf Coast University Biotechnology Seminar Series invites members of the public, health community and media to "What can vesicular stomatitis virus teach us about viral gene expression and interactions with the host cell?" 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 12 in 213 Student Union.
The free seminar features speaker Sean Whelan, assistant professor in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Whelan received his Bachelor of Science in microbiology in 1989 from the University of Birmingham, England, and a Ph.D. in molecular virology from the University of Reading, England, in 1993. Following postdoctoral work at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with Gail Wertz where he studied the replication of negative-sense RNA viruses, Whelan joined the faculty at Harvard Medical School in 2002.
