FGCU Invites Public to Community Engagement Seminar April 22-23

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University invites the public to the seminar Tools and Strategies for Community Engagement, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, April 22-23 in the Student Union ballroom and at the FGCU Cape Coral Center, 1020 Cultural Park Blvd. S. Unit #3, to learn skills that are utilized in the process of community involvement.

The seminar is designed for citizens, practitioners and students who want to work with and understand community involvement from a practical perspective, understand the basic principles of public participation, and learn about the varieties and forms of participation techniques.

In addition, the workshop teaches participants to understand community dynamics and how they shape participation efforts, analyze engagement cases in order to think strategically about what works, and learn to design processes to effectively meet community and public goals.

Guest speaker is Craig W. Shinn, chair and associate professor of public administration, and associate director of the Executive Leadership Institute in the Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University in Oregon. Shinn teaches environmental and natural resource policy and administration, policy analysis, civic engagement and organization theory.

The FGCU Southeastern Center for Excellence in Law Enforcement and Public Safety, and University of Florida IFAS Extension present the seminar.
